Desperate Landscapes with a touch of lemons…

September 1, 2009

Bet you didn’t know that you were in the presence of a tv star/celebrity?

Before & After...what a difference a day makes!

Before & After...what a difference a day makes!

At the end of July, our family and home was chosen to be on DIY’s Desperate Landscapes.  You might know the host if you watch DIY…the hunky Jason Cameron.    So the picture to the right is the before & after…don’t think awful of us when you see the before.  In our defense, we only owned the house for a year, bought the ugliest on the street on purpose, kept it ugly for photos for the shows application, I was on bed-rest, and now we have a baby.  Is that enough to excuses to why our house was SO UGLY?

We were so grateful, that we anticipated making a donation to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Cincinnati, which was a favorite charity of the production company, Jay TV.  As the excitement grew in our neighborhood for our house to be on the show, our neighbors requested that Mallory do a lemonade stand.  She committed to giving all the money she raise (and we matched her earnings) to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Cincinnati.

Long story short, the night before the shoot and the lemonade stand, I was Googling “lemonade stand” because I wanted to be prepared…and yes, I am anal retentive.  Up popped this contest on Sunkist’s Facebook page.  Take a Stand is  a great promotion Sunkist does to promote kids giving back to the community.  Mallory ended up winning the contest with the most photo “LIKES.”   Since we won, she is now going to have a Sunkist sponsored lemonade stand this Saturday, from 10:30 am – 2:30 pm at the Woodlawn/Evendale Kroger.  If she raises and additional $280, Sunkist will match her donation of $500.  That would bring our total donation to $1000  and will support a mentoring match for 1 year.  It is unbelievable how much it costs to keep such an awesome program running.  So…if you are in the area, please stop by and grab a nice grab of  Sunkist’s freshly squeezed lemonade and a cookie/brownie.
